5. Committee Business
None was raised at the general meeting. Notes from individual committee meetings
are as follows:
Field Trip Committee
- Planning a "mini" field trip on November 5th to Curtis Orchard and Alto Vineyard
here in Champaign at 11am. It will be fun for stress relief and general acting
like a kid activities.
- tossing around the idea for another trip in late November-December, maybe
Springfield for the Lincoln Museum, or that kind of thing.
- also tossing around the idea of going to Milwaukee in the spring for something
different. Everyone goes to Chicago and St. Louis, and I hear there's a Radio
and Television Museum
Conference Committee
The conference committee met last week and we've decided to send out a brief
survey to determine who, if anyone, is attending the ALA midwinter conference
in San Antonio. Based on that response, we will plan relevant events.
Fundraising Committee
Solicited t-shirt design ideas from students, posted them online for voting.
Have chosen a vendor for t-shirt ordering and will proceed with the order once
the voting is over.
Lecture Committee
Have met and are planning some great speakers. The teacher of the GSLIS summer
course Legal Issues in LIS will be contacted to come speak, as he has shown
definite interest, and is very knowledgeable. Also mentioned was setting up
something with Pages for all Ages (the local bookstore). Other suggestions welcome!
Social Committee
Will be meeting before the next social event (probably around 6:30pm next Thurs),
which is at Fiesta Cafe in Champaign next Thursday probably around 7pm. Maggie
Hommel is going to be co-chair of the committee now, along with Kyle Naff.
International
No response from committee
LEEP
No meeting yet.
Community Outreach
No response.
ACRL
ACRL president Camila Alire came to speak at GSLIS last week, and there was
good turnout. An audio archive of her talk is available here.
Professional Development
This committee may be dissolved or reformatted. More information coming soon.
6. Katrina Support Status
Mary Kate e-mailed our ALA National representative for an update, our application
is in and we are waiting to be paired with a library.
7. Upcoming Events
Midwinter - student registration is $50 through December 9th and after December
9th it will be the on-site rate of $68. The Conference Committee is working
on putting together information for those going and interested in going to the
Midwinter Conference
Next General Meeting will be held November 14th at 5:15 in room 131 and our guest speaker will be Sarah Dutelle of the Champaign Public Library
Windsor Lecture with Roy Tennant is October 21st from 4 - 6. Also, ASIST will hold an informal discussion with Mr. Tennant from 1:30 - 2:30.
8. Announcements
On October 21st at 9 am in room 131, there will be a student meeting with Dean
Unsworth - all students are invited. If you cannot make the meeting but have
questions for the Dean, please e-mail them to Angela Maycock at maycock2@uiuc.edu.
Future meetings with the Dean may be broadcasted for LEEP students and LEEP
students will have an opportunity to meet with Dean Unsworth during LEEP Weekend
in the Spring.
Question: Is anyone going to the Library History Seminar?
