ALA Meeting
22 September 2004
Introduction of board members
About ALA
You don’t have to be a member in order to participate in the student chapter
of ALA. Sign up through the ALA website http://www.ala.org. It would probably
be a good idea to sign up for the new member round table where new ALA members
and new librarians discuss issues.
National Conference in Chicago
Since the annual conference is so close, it is really a great opportunity for
our chapter to become involved and to do our part. We have a base of alumni
in the area, and the conference can also be a chance for LEEP and Fridays-Only
students to be involved as well. Two years ago, the GSLIS chapter was the student
chapter of the year and we’d love to win that title again!
About the Committees and Sign-Ups
We need members for all of the committees: ACRL, Community Outreach, Conference,
Field Trip, Fundraising, International, LEEP, Lecture, Social, and Professional
Development.
Explanation about the Board / Committee Chair relationship
Each board member is paired with one of the committees. The chair can ask for
funds, etc., through the board member, but the chair is in charge of the committee.
The ACRL will be treated as a committee for now, even though it is really a
division of ALA. We’re working to get this group off the ground since
it is the first student division.
