Community Outreach - Lisa Weinstein and Suzy Piel (Brian):

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24 in the Center for Children's Books at 5:15 PM.

The Community Outreach committee is moving right along with the Pavilion Foundational School project. We were able to collect over $280 in donations standing outside of Walmart at the end of Feb. We since have spent about $200 of that money at the CCB's booksale, where we bought 2 boxes of books to add to the Pavilion's library.

Our next phase is to compile a "wish list" of books through amazon.com and then request that individuals purchase one of these books to donate to the Pavilion library. We will be promoting this to the GSLIS community and to area bookstores. Our next meeting will be April 14 at 5:15 in the CCB. We plan to finish organizing this leg of the project and work on implementing a simple organizational and filing system of these books for the school. This project will be completed during finals week when we are able to spend time during the regular school day to paint the library and bring in the books.

If anyone would like to help with this project, donate books or other supplies please contact Lisa Weinstein (lweinste@uiuc.edu) or Suzy Piel (piel@uiuc.edu).

International - Jaclyn Bedoya (Mary Kate):

We have our international student directory compiled, and hopefully that's getting sent to Diana for inclusion on the webpage.

We have an international student panel scheduled for April 13 at 5:15.

We have a workshop about helping international students scheduled for April 18 at 5:15 in 109 GSLIS. So far we have three speakers lined up.

We're putting out a call for volunteers for Professor Boyd Rayward's conference scheduled for the first week of May. Mark is getting details & will get back to us.

Professional Development - Katie Kopchok (Candle):

Our "Conference Attendence 101" session is this Monday, Feb 28th in 126 GSLIS from 1-2pm. Seven, possibly eight, presenters will attend. It will be archived for LEEP as well.

Lorelle Swader, the HR & Recruitment Director who takes care of Prof Devt for ALA National, will be coming to speak here on March 28th from 12:30-1:30 pm in room 126 GSLIS.

We hope to have a series brown bags that would be tutorials/intro's to courses here at GSLIS. A one hour session that would give an introduction to a course that is available the next semester, so people can decide if they want to enroll in the course. We will be contacting professors to see if there is interest in this.

Another Prof Devt Committee mtg will be scheduled after the Conference 101 session.
